Description

City of Waterbury seeking a full-time contract attorney for a busy municipal law office. The ideal candidate will be confident and highly motivated; have excellent communication skills; and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.  

 Responsibilities include:

  • Work with all City departments to provide legal assistance and guidance regarding the City’s Procurement Process and contracting process.
  • Draft and review of municipal contracts, leases, ordinances and resolutions, and assist in economic development matters.
  • Assist and represent the City in various real estate matters, including closings, easements, and other real estate projects.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with contractors/vendors as needed.
  • Review state and federal grant applications, grant contracts and related documents. 
  • Conduct research, interpret and prepare sound legal opinions in accordance with municipal laws, regulations, codes, ordinances and policies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general contract requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to draft, read and interpret contract documents and leases.
  • Experience with various real estate matters is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage high volume case load and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.


Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

  • Admitted to practice law in the State of Connecticut.

  • Minimum one year experience.
