The Region Operations Manager (ROM) - Reliable Onsite division, plays a key role in supporting ROS Region locations through hands-on training, optimized system utilization, and data analysis, with a strong focus on operational execution in the areas of dispatch, rental flow, and fleet administration. This role is instrumental in supporting regional growth initiatives by ensuring operational consistency and excellence. ROM works closely with Region, District, and Branch leadership and staff to drive standardized implementation and adoption of United Rentals (UR) systems, practices, and procedures. This includes promoting consistent usage of dispatch systems and ensuring that both new and existing locations align with company operating methodologies. Operating across multiple functional areas, the ROM collaborates with departments such as OED, IT, and field operations to meet both strategic and tactical goals for operational integration. The position may also lead or support special operational projects and initiatives within the Region as assigned.
What you'll do:
- Collaborate with the Operations Excellence Director and cross-functional teams to design and implement a dedicated ROS-specific dispatch training program. This initiative will feature regularly scheduled live training sessions, comprehensive training materials, and hands-on learning opportunities to enhance operational proficiency.
- Partner with OED and District Manager to identify market-specific opportunities for optimizing dispatch system usage. Drive initiatives that deliver measurable improvements to profit and loss (P&L) outcomes and elevate the overall customer experience.
- Partner directly with DM and district FAST champions to establish consistency in dispatch roles while enhancing overall ROS dispatch performance.
- Lead the introduction of 5S principles within the region, actively participating in 5S certification processes, Kaizen events, and other operational excellence initiatives; support special projects aimed at driving efficiency improvements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in Rental Flow, collaborating with DM and BM to identify branches requiring support and driving behavioral and process improvements through influence and best practices.
- Acquisitions Operations Integration/Execution
- Collaborate with OED, DM, Branch Manager and frontline employees to introduce and execute the operational playbook. Provide on-site support before and after branch openings to ensure a successful operational launch and seamless integration into the Company.
- Lead the introduction and implementation of United Rentals (UR) systems-including Rentalman and FAST-in partnership with super users. Work closely with OED and DM to oversee training, ensure smooth rollout and adoption, and provide support for customization and troubleshooting as needed. Assist in broader systems integration initiatives by leveraging internal resources.
- Partner with Region Finance Director to oversee fleet-based reporting and ensure accurate communication with BM and DM regarding key metrics such as Unassigned Vehicles, OECNA, PM Currency, and other data as required.
- Support basic fleet logistics in coordination with RFD and Holman, facilitating operational efficiency and process continuity.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of operational management experience, with strong business acumen, and a minimum of 2 years supervisory or leadership experience.
- Extensive FAST, Rentalman, superuser expertise, with deep knowledge of Company systems across many functions, including Catalyst, ePro, Concur, etc.
- Familiar with UR corporate departments, across field support and corporate functions.
- Ability to train others on systems and operational processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communicator, ability to develop and sustain relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to build effective teams, manage, develop and motivate others and drive for results.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong computer and software skills, including Excel.
- Travel up to 40% based on cold starts, acquisition, and other Region growth activities requiring operations integration and execution.
This position is deemed Safety Sensitive for purposes of United Rentals' policies and procedures.
