JOB SUMMARY
The Systems Administrator is a key member of the IT Infrastructure & Cloud Services team, responsible for maintaining and securing enterprise systems while supporting cloud and digital transformation initiatives. This role provides expert-level technical support across agency applications, endpoint systems, M365, and other infrastructure components. It also involves mentoring junior IT staff, promoting best practices in IT service delivery and security, and developing user-friendly documentation to enhance self-sufficiency and operational efficiency.
Experience and Skills
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer, monitor, and maintain Windows and Linux servers, virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V), and storage systems.
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN networks, firewalls, VPNs, and switching infrastructure.
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to provide IT guidance, conduct system evaluations, and recommend infrastructure improvements.
- Manage and optimize Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Lead patch management, system upgrades, and performance tuning across infrastructure components.
- Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
- Develop and maintain documentation for systems, processes, and procedures to support operational efficiency.
- Provide tier-3 escalation support and mentor junior IT team members as needed.
- Deliver cost-effective technical support for user computers, peripherals, and agency-authorized software applications.
- Monitor the helpdesk ticketing system, maintain service level agreements, and ensure timely escalation of issues.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve reported technology issues, assigning appropriate priority and delivering effective solutions.
- Install and maintain desktop and server hardware, software, and related peripherals.
- Promote user self-sufficiency through setup assistance and resource support.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in IT support within an enterprise infrastructure environment may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Certifications and Technical Proficiency
- Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, Azure Administrator Associate, VMware VCP, CCNA, or CompTIA Security+ preferred.
- Experience with Zero Trust architecture, endpoint management, and mobile device management (MDM) preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience as a Systems Administrator supporting enterprise infrastructure, including Windows operating systems, Exchange Environment, and cloud operations.
- Proficiency in virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Linux distributions (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL).
- Extensive experience with Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory).
- Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, and hybrid identity solutions.
- Solid understanding of networking protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto), and VPNs (IPSec, SSL).
- Familiarity with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Python (basic), Ansible, SCCM, and Intune.
- Experience implementing and managing endpoint protection, MFA, conditional access, and SIEM tools (e.g., Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk).
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and documentation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of computer and network security systems, applications, procedures, and best practices.
- Familiarity with enterprise networking equipment and topologies.
